DENVER | In a top-heavy Class 4A Region 4 tournament played Tuesday at Foothills Golf Course, Vista PEAK Prep sophomore Sophia Capua rose to the occasion.

With a field onhand led by Erie, which has won the last two 4A state team championships and feature the players that finished first (Logan Hale) and second (Hadley Ashton) in the individual standings, Capua was one of the best players on the course from start to finish.

The Bison standout made birdies on two of her final three holes to wrap up a round of even-par 72 that put her third behind Hale (who shot 66) and Ashton (who carded 68) and firmly into her second straight 4A state meet as an individual.

Capua — who tied for ninth at last season’s 4A state tournament — is headed to The Country Club of Colorado May 20-21.
