AURORA | The Smoky Hill girls basketball team has gained momentum in non-league play and it was no different when the Centennial League slate began Wednesday night.
The Buffaloes played host to Cherry Creek — a team that won last season’s meeting by 47 points — and earned their fifth straight win with a 53-45 victory with help of a 28-point effort from junior guard Arielle Boyd.
Sophomore Taylor Dirden added nine points and sophomore Leilani Gordon added eight for coach Shawn Dirden’s Smoky Hill team, which improved to 11-2 on the season. The Buffaloes moved within just one win from matching its highest total in the past 20 years, as the 2021-22 Buffaloes earned 12.
Smoky Hill resumes Centennial League play with an 11:30 a.m. Saturday visit to Eaglecrest (11-3, 0-1).
