ENGLEWOOD | A new state champion — Arapahoe — was crowned in boys lacrosse this season, as Cherry Creek denied Regis Jesuit a shot at a repeat.

The Bruins held off the Raiders 4-3 in a tight semifinal contest on May 16 at Englewood High School, using a two-goal burst early in the fourth period to get the deciding edge.

Ryan Ball had two goals and Logan Stelzner one for Regis Jesuit, the 2011 state champion which finished the season 14-6 overall. Goalie Nick Willenbrock made eight saves in the defeat.

Cherry Creek went on to lose to Arapahoe 8-4 in the state championship game on May 19 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The Warriors finished the season 19-0.
