COLORADO SPRINGS | The Vista PEAK boys golf team had good reason to have high hopes going into Monday’s Class 4A Region 2 at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

The Bison shared the EMAC championship during the regular season and appeared deep enough to qualify for the state tournament at as team.
But Vista PEAK found the going difficult on the Eisenhower Silver Course, as coach Michael Martikonis’ team finished in 12th place in a strong field and didn’t have an individual make the cut either.
Freshman Dawson Thulin played his first regional tournament at 16-over-par, which put him in a tie for 20th and just outside of the group moving on to state. Thulin recorded two birdies in his round, but lost seven shots on a two-hole stretch near the end of the round that hurt his score.
Senior Sha Jefferson was unable to earn his third career state trip.
