GREENWOOD VILLAGE | In a game with massive swings of momentum, the Regis Jesuit boys basketball team rode it at the right time — the fourth quarter — on its way to a 70-64 win at Cherry Creek Monday night.

The Raiders came out on fire with a 29-point first quarter, then fell down by double figures after they were outscored 23-6 by the Bruins in the second quarter and had that same margin in their favor in the decisive fourth quarter.

Junior Eric Fiedler poured in a season-high 31 points for Regis Jesuit, which also got 14 from senior Lucas Dickinson, who had seven points in the deciding run. Coach Ken Shaw’s Raiders extended their winning streak to six games and now sit 10-2.

It only took 2 1/2 minutes for Regis Jesuit to build a double-digit lead (12-2) as three different players made 3-point shots in the early going.

The lead stood at seven points at the end of the quarter, but Cherry Creek roared into break up 45-35 after a dominant second quarter. Junior Jeremiah Hammond (who finished with 25 points) had a lot to do with that, as did the problems in the paint posed by 7-foot-2 freshman Dylan Betts.

The Bruins added another point to their lead by the end of the third quarter, but it was all Regis Jesuit in the final quarter. A 13-2 run to open the quarter was capped by a midrange jumper from Fiedler that tied the game at 60-60 midway through the quarter.

Junior Deion Cesario-Scott’s reverse layup — which came after he pump faked Betts into the air along the baseline — put the Raiders ahead for good. Dickinson made a jumper and went 5-for-6 from the free throw line to help seal the win. Fiedler also made a free throw down the stretch as he bested his 30-point effort in a win over Denver East prior to winter break for his top scoring output of the season.

Regis Jesuit has now completed the non-league portion of its schedule — save for a Feb. 14 visit to Valor Christian — and dives into Continental League play with a Jan. 17 road game at Douglas County.
