CENTENNIAL | The Eaglecrest boys basketball team got a final celebration of its Class 6A state championship Friday in an assembly in the school’s gymnasium.
The Raptors captured the program’s third-all time state title March 15 with a 65-63 win over Valor Christian at the Denver Coliseum right before the start of the Cherry Creek Schools spring break and were honored at the end of the first week after classes resumed.
Seniors Garrett Barger and La’Quince York brought the 6A state championship trophy to present to principal Gwen Hansen-Vigil, then the entire team and coaching staff (led by head coach Jarris Krapcha) received medals of excellence and a few players took part in the traditional cutting down of the net from one basket.
Also honored at the assembly was Jason Mabry, who was presented with a prestigious Heart of the Arts award.
The festivities also included an appearance from Denver Nuggets supermascot Rocky.
