News for and about the business community in the greater Aurora region

  1. “this specific store hasn’t performed as well as we hoped.”

In other words… no retail operation can survive and continue to stave off the exhausting thief. The worries of everyday chaos and extra cost of putting hair shampoo behind fencing.

This demonstrates the obvious. The business is sick and tired and fed up. Totally predictable!

  2. Dean68 couldn’t have said it better myself it’s that area and the massive theft

  3. I have a friend that lives within walking distance of that Walmart. She cannot afford a car and goes shopping there 3 times/week. This will be a tremendous loss to her. She will check out the El Mercado market, 2 blocks to the east, but doubtful that her shopping needs will be met there. This is a tremendous loss to certain segments of the community.

  4. I hated the loss of the Hispanic grocery store when Walmart replaced it. It would be great if an employee-owned co-op grocery store could take it over and really serve the diverse community.

  5. Until there are consequences for the thieves, drug dealers and addicts who overwhelm the area and especially the bus stops at Colfax and Havana. No business will be able to survive. The failure is in our elected leaders who have reduced the penalties for consuming whatever drugs were just bought on the corner to nothing but a reason for the APD to just look the other way. APD is short handed and exhausted in this futile pursuit to clean the area up. They are powerless until something is done to make the dealers, addicts and thieves realize they will pay dearly for their actions.

  6. The employee owned retail operation concept in the crime infested Aurora neighborhood like the one Walmart pulled out of creates an interesting and obvious challenge. Stores like Walmart tolerated the losses till they said no more. Will behavior change with employees directly affected with losses caused by walk-outs through the door not bothering to pay at the check out stand? I don’t know, but I would expect the resistance will become considerably greater against the easy stealing Walmart allowed.
