Current professional basketball player and one of the biggest stars in Grandview High School’s growing girls basketball history — Michaela Onyenwere — is hosting a camp Saturday and Sunday at the University of Colorado Denver.
Onyenwere was a three-time Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year while at Grandview (a mark recently matched by current senior Sienna Betts) and McDonald’s All-American before she went on to star at UCLA before the start of her professional career. The 25-year-old was a first round draft pick of the WNBA’s New York Liberty in 2021 and is currently with the Chicago Sky, while she has also played several places abroad.
The camp will run March 22-23 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. both days at the Lola & Rob Salazar Student Wellness Center, which is located at 1355 12th Street in Denver. The camp is offered for girls ages 8-16 of all skill levels and costs $150 per camper.
In addition to tips and instruction from Onyenwere and three professional players — Jordin Canada of the Atlanta Dream, Charisma Osborne of the Phoenix Mercury and Didi Richards, most recently of the Washington Mystics and currently with the Sydney Flames in Australia — campers will receive a t-shirt, water bottle, drawstring backpack and daily lunch.
