QUID HAS HEARD state Sen. Rhonda Fields’ gun-control combat boots were made for walking all over Congressman Mike Coffman last week. At the state Capitol, things did not go well for Democrats trying to push through even easy-peasy gun-grabbing bills, even after the not-latest school shooting. But in Washington, lawmakers there made claims of astonishing victory this week as they ballyhooed a national law to make schools safer from mass shootings. The measure, however, has nothing to do with guns. When Coffman tweeted how proud he was that Congress accomplished something about school shootings, Fields wasn’t having it. She gave Coffman the return tweeted bird saying, “I got death threats while passing bills to keep guns out of the hands of murderers, rapists and domestic abusers. Where were you?” There was no reply from Coffman. Your affiant points out only that the ever-moderating Coffman was not at the #EnoughIsEnough walkout at Rangeview High School.
AND QUID HAS HEARD that Aurora City Council members, for all their talk of metro-area collegiality and making nicey nice with their bossy step-sister-city downstream of Cherry Creek, really are a pretty selfish lot. Seems the Aurora City Council took the time and money to study the pervasive issue of sexual harassment in a world made anew by the #MeToo movement. They set aside a day of valuable bigger-picture thinking time to show the world how important the issue is, despite what appears to be a dearth of complaints about sexual harassment at City Hall, although charges of general harassment abound. How sad it is that short-sighted city councilors overlooked sending an invitation to attend to Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, where such education is clearly sorely needed.
