The Medical Center of Aurora has a new boss.
Richard Hammett will take over Aug. 1 as CEO of TMCA and Centennial Medical Plaze, HCA-HealthONE announced today.
Hammett, who is the COO of St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas, will replace John Hill, who left in May to join PeaceHealth in Oregon.
“Richard will be a great addition to our team in Colorado,” Sylvia Young, president and CEO of HealthONE and the HCA Continental Division said in a statement.
This isn’t Hammett’s first stop with HCA.
Before taking over at St. David’s in 2007, he was senior vice president for strategic planning and development at HCA’s Central and West Texas Division in Austin. That divisions operates eight acute care hospitals, including six in the St. David’s HealthCare system. Before that, Hammett spent 10 years with Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee in a variety of roles, including administrator and vice president for care operations for the 347-bed hospital, the statement said.
Young said Hammett’s experience in Texas and Tennessee are important factors.
“He brings more than 17 years of hospital experience, including building and growing the Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute into an internationally recognized program. Richard’s passion for collaborating with physicians to deliver top-notch specialty care meshes perfectly with our ‘Patients First’ approach to health care,” she said in a statement.
Hammett has master’s degrees in health administration as well as business administration from the University of Alabama, Birmingham and a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
He and his wife, Amy, have three children.
In addition to TMCA’s Aurora campuses at 1501 S. Potomac St. and 700 Potomac St., the center includes Centennial Medical Plaza at 14200 E. Arapahoe Rd., Centennial.
