AURORA | The suspect in the fatal hit-and-run early Friday morning is in custody, but Aurora Police are still searching for a 2007 blue Toyota Corolla.
“The vehicle is expected to have heavy front-end damage,” the statement said.
Police responded to an auto-pedestrian hit-and-run crash at about 5:15 a.m. at Havana Street and East 14th Avenue, where an adult female was found dead at the scene after being struck by a vehicle, according to a statement from Aurora Police.
“Following an extensive investigation throughout the morning, Aurora Police Traffic Investigations Unit detectives identified and located the driver involved,” a police statement said.
The suspect is 31-year old Marcos Ortega-Lopez, police said. The statement said Ortega-Lopez was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving death, a felony, and he was transported to the Aurora Detention Center. He is currently being held in the Arapahoe County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
According to the latest statement from the police department, the suspected vehicle, a 2007 blue Toyota Corolla with Colorado license plate CYXB39, was still not located.
The police are requesting public information about the car. Police said anyone with information can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.
