AURORA | The second sanity evaluation of accused theater shooter James Holmes is complete, the judge in the case announced Wednesday.
The evaluation, which will remain sealed, was delivered to the court Wednesday and the two sides are expected to receive copies of it this afternoon, Judge Carlos Samour wrote in an order released Wednesday.
In addition to the doctor’s findings, the evaluation includes videotaped recordings of the doctor’s interviews with Holmes.
Prosecutors asked for a second sanity evaluation after they objected to some findings in the first evaluation conducted by doctors at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo. That evaluation has also been sealed.
Holmes is accused of killing 12 and wounding dozens more during a July 2012 shooting rampage at an Aurora movie theater. He is scheduled to go to trial in December.
He has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
