AURORA | Police arrested a suspect within minutes of a triple stabbing Sunday evening that left one dead and two others hurt in central Aurora, according to a police statement.
Officers responded around 5:20 p.m. Sunday to the City Center North neighborhood near East Ellsworth Avenue and South Sable Boulevard on a report of “a man down with injuries,” police reported.
The man, whose name has not been identified, was rushed to an area hospital, where he died at about 6:40 p.m., police said.
Investigating officers also found a man and woman nearby who had been stabbed, police said. The pair were taken to an area hospital and are in reportedly in stable condition, police said.
At 5:47 p.m. — less than a half hour after police arrived on scene — officers arrested a man they say is a suspect in all three stabbings.
Names of the three people stabbed and the suspect have not been released.
The man knew the three victims, police said, but investigators aren’t releasing details about what might have led to the stabbing or how officers quickly identified him as a suspect.
“There is no threat to the public as a result of this incident. No further information will be provided at this time as to what led officers to the arrest of that suspect to protect the integrity of the investigation,” police said in a statement.
Police are asking anyone with information to call investigators at 303-739-6013.
