AURORA | A man already serving a 48-year prison term for drowning his 2-year-old son in 2005 pleaded not guilty today to killing his wife in 1996.
Michael Jim Medina, 41, entered the plea during a brief hearing Thursday in Arapahoe County District Court. A judge scheduled his trial for November.
Also at Thrsday’s hearing, Judge Kurt Horton rejected a motion from Medina’s defense team to dismiss the case.
Medina was indicted by an Arapahoe County grand jury this spring on charges he killed Kimmy Greene-Medina in October 1996. He is already serving a prison sentence for the 2005 killing of his 2-year-old son, Degan, in Rio Blanco County.
Investigators never found Greene’s body after she was last seen Oct. 29, 1996, and have declined to say what changed in the case and led to Medina’s indictment. A spokeswoman for the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office said documents in the case are sealed.
But investigators took a closer look at Medina after Degan’s death when his new wife came forward and said Medina confessed to Greene’s killing.
Sources said an Arapahoe County grand jury took up Greene’s disappearance in 2007, but the case was slow to develop after that.
Then, this year, the grand jury handed down its indictment, charging Medina in March with first-degree murder after deliberation. State records list the date of the murder as Oct. 29, 1996, the day Greene was last seen at her Aurora apartment.
God willing Mike will burn for killing Kimmy and his son Degan. Kimmy has been gone 16 years in October..Her daughter just turned 19, the age Kimmy was when she died. It makes my heart ache that his “defense” team would try to get this dismissed. The pain this family feels is real, the tears fall daily, had what this demon has done can only be made right by his death..RIP Kimmy, and Degan…Mike for once be a man and let this family bring Kimmy home.
I am Kimmy’s Aunt and yes.. Mike will burn for doing this.. not only to Kimmy but to Degan.. God says vengance is mine.. All we want is a body so we can get closure.. Those girls are so beautiful and growing up so fast.. something a mother would never want to miss.. unfortunately.. thanks to Michael Jim Medina.. not only will Kimmy not ever get to see them get married, have children.. but neither will Mike.. Sad but true Mike.. your suffering.. dont make us as family suffer any longer.. you got what you wanted.. let us have our closure..
Mike can never become a man, that’s why he had to kill women and children. Mike was a good friend of mine, and he lied to me for ten years after Kim disappeared. Then he killed his own flesh and blood. I can’t believe its taken this long to prosecute him. I think people close to Mike know more than their saying. My prayers will always be with Kim and Degan. The way I see it two special people had to die so this selfish person can’t hurt anyone else.
I was their neighbor, coworker, and friend..and I always knew he did it. He never talked about her, and was with another girl in no time, as usual. He would always laugh that his in laws would never see their grandkids. Sick and demented! I hope they finally make him pay for what he has done.
