AURORA | A woman accused of driving recklessly in traffic in northeast Aurora Sunday evening was killed and others were injured when her Jeep collided head on with another car, creating a four-car crash, police said.
Witnesses said that an unidentified woman driving a Jeep Cherokee was northbound on South Gun Club Road near Smith Road at about 4:45 p.m. when the crash occurred.
“Witnesses reported the Jeep attempted multiple unsafe passing maneuvers by entering the southbound lanes,” Aurora police spokesperson Gabby Easterwood said in a statement. “During one attempt to pass, the Jeep rear ended a Lexus sedan.”
Right after that, the Jeep swerved away and into the southbound lanes of Gun Club and hit an oncoming Tesla head on, police reported.
“The driver and sole occupant of the Tesla sustained serious injuries, but is expected to be OK,” Easterwood said. “The driver of the Jeep, an adult female, was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Two other people inside the Jeep sustained serious injuries from the crash and were taken to a nearby hospital.
Gun Club Road was closed for a few hours as police investigated the crash.
“Speed and alcohol are suspected contributing factors,” Easterwood said.
