AURORA | Police say a man accused of shooting and injuring another man at an Aurora home early Sunday likely won’t be charged in the case, as details indicate it was in self-defense, according to police.

Police were called to a house in the 11500 block of East Highline Place in Aurora at about 3:15 a.m. after reports of a shooting there.

“Officers quickly arrived on scene and detained multiple people, including who we believe to be the suspected shooter.,” Aurora Police spokesperson Agent Matthew Longshore said in a statement on Sunday. “The victim and others involved are all known to each other. “

Police said an investigation revealed the shooting was connected to a domestic-violence issue involving the separated couple.

“The investigation revealed that the husband — who was shot — was attempting to forcibly enter the wife’s residence when he was shot by (the shooting suspect),” Longshore said in an updated statement Tuesday. “The husband remains hospitalized.”

Police said that man may be charged in the case, depending on his condition when he is discharged, Longshore said.

He did not detail what the potential charges would be.

“The wife and other man will not be identified,” he said. “We will release the husband’s name if…he is arrested.”
