Aurora City Council members gave near-unanimous approval to a measure to increase the number of allowed chickens from four to six at a regular city council meeting Dec. 7. Councilman Brad Pierce was absent from the vote.

The measure also allows up to eight chicken hens in lots of 20,000 square feet or greater for all single-family residential properties zoned RA, RE and RO.

Aurora City Council members voted 8-1 in support of the measure, with Ward V Councilman Bob Roth voting no. Councilman Brad Pierce was absent from the vote.

To obtain a permit, residents would also still be required to provide a drawing with dimensions of the chicken coop as well as dimensions for an adjacent outdoor enclosure, and how far both will be from fence lines with their applications.
