AURORA | One of two teens meeting others in a car Monday evening at a central Aurora street corner was shot and seriously injured during the meet-up, police said.

Police said an unidentified man, 18, and another teenager had arranged to meet with two people near East Louisiana and South Uvalda Street at about 4 p.m. Monday.

Police did not provide details about why the teens planned to meet.

“When they approached the suspect vehicle and began speaking with those inside, shots were fired from within the car, striking the 18 year old,” Aurora police spokesperson Sgt. Matt Wells-Longshore said in a statement. “The vehicle left the scene and the individuals involved have not yet been identified.”

After the man was shot, he and his companion were picked up by a passing motorist who began rushing them to a hospital. City rescuers caught up with their car and completed the transport to a local hospital, police said.

Wells-Longshore said the injuries the man received during the shooting were life-threatening.
