AURORA | Two separate house fires caused by electrical malfunctions damaged homes in Aurora yesterday and early today, but no injuries were reported, fire officials said.
Aurora Fire Rescue responded about 5:30 p.m. Monday to reports of a house fire in the 2100 block of South Moline Street.
Firefighters reported seeing smoke coming from the house when they arrived.
Crews found the fire in the basement and were able to confine it to the room it started in. The blaze caused fire, smoke and water damage across the entire basement. The fire was brought under control within about 20 minutes, officials said. Residents of the house were displaced as a result of the fire.
At approximately 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aurora police driving by saw smoke coming from a house in the 400 block of North Zion Street and notified fire officials.
Firefighters arriving at the scene reported smoke coming from the attic and found the first floor filled with smoke.
Crews located a basement fire that had extended to the first floor and put it out.
The house sustained fire, smoke and water damage in the basement, with additional damage to the first floor. That fire was placed under control within about 20 minutes, and no one in the house was displaced.
Fire officials said investigations determined both fires were accidental and caused by electrical failures or malfunctions.
