AURORA |Aurora’s University Hospital was tabbed as the best in the state and one of the best in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report.

It’s not the first time University Colorado Hospital has been named by the national magazine as a top health-care center in the region. The hospital has made the publication’s best hospital list in at least one specialty for 20 consecutive years.

The annual analysis was released Tuesday and again bestowed the hospital on the Anschutz Campus with a number of top honors and recognitions, including the best hospital in the state.

The hospital earned a national ranking in nine specialties, up from five last year. Most notably, the hospital was ranked No. 2 and No. 15 in the nation in the areas of pulmonology and cancer, respectively. University Hospital was also recognized for its “high performing” specialties of cardiology and heart surgery, ear, nose and throat, and geriatrics, though they were not ranked in the top 100 nationally.

US News researched data from more than 5,000 hospitals in compiling their annual list, reviewing 16 categories.  Of all U.S. hospitals, only 144 received rankings in the report.
