AURORA | Interstate 225 will close in both directions Friday and Saturday night for the installation of a pedestrian bridge for the RTD Aurora light rail line.

The green lines show the northbound I-225 detour, while blue lines show the southbound I-225 detour for Friday and Saturday nights.

Regional Transportation District officials announced Tuesday that Kiewit Infrastructure Co. will require a full closure of I-225 between Mississippi Avenue and Iliff Avenue on the southbound side and Parker Road to Mississippi Avenue on the northbound side.

The closure will be in place from 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, to 6 a.m. Saturday morning, Aug. 8, and then again from 8 p.m. Saturday until 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9.

The pedestrian bridge installation is part of work to connect the Medical Center of Aurora on the western side of I-225 to the coming Florida Station on the east side of the interstate.

RTD officials say there will be additional lane restrictions in overnight hours through September as part of the Aurora Line work, which is due to be completed sometime in 2016.
