AURORA | A 30-year-old man accused of fatally shooting another man last week in the parking lot of a north-Aurora apartment complex has been charged with murder.
Edin Samuel Yanez-Orellana was arrested last week in connection with the shooting of Yefferson Contreras-Colina, 23, and faces a charge of second-degree murder, 17th Judicial District officials said in a statement.
Yanez-Orellana is accused of shooting Contreras-Colina at about 7:30 a.m. outside an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Blackhawk Street.
“When officers arrived at the scene, they located a man…suffering from a gunshot wound,” Aurora police spokesperson Joe Moylan said in a statement last week. “The man was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.”
Police said the arrest was the culmination of work between the APD Fugitive Unit and FBI Safe Streets program, and Yanez-Orellana was later arrested near the 1600 block of South Sable Boulevard.
