AURORA | Investigators say one or both drivers involved in a fatal car crash early Saturday in central Aurora may have been intoxicated.
Police were called to the intersection of South Peoria Street and East Jewell Avenue at about 3 a.m. after reports of a car crash there.
“The preliminary investigation has determined a Hyundai SUV was making a southbound turn onto South Peoria Street from westbound Jewell Avenue when it collided with a Nissan Xterra driving south through the intersection,” police spokesperson Joe Moylan said in a statement. “An adult male passenger of the Hyundai SUV sustained critical injuries in the crash and was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died.”
The man killed in the crash will be identified later by coroner officials.
Both of the car drivers were hospitalized with “non-life-threatening” injuries, police reported.
“Alcohol is being investigated as a possible contributing factor to the crash, as both drivers exhibited signs of consumption’” Moylan said.
No other details were released.
