MONDAY, MARCH 9: The Overland girls soccer team rolled to a 9-0 road victory at Denver West. …Led by the play of Max McDougall, the Smoky Hill boys lacrosse team jumped on Douglas County in a matchup at Stutler Bowl and rolled to a 14-2 victory. It was a delayed season opener for the Buffs, who had their first one canceled by snow. …In a nip and tuck evening contest at Legacy Stadium, host Cherokee Trail dropped a 10-9 decision to Ralston Valley. …The Regis Jesuit girls lacrosse team opened its season with a decisive 17-6 home win over Kent Denver. Natalie Chilton tallied five goals for the Raiders, who also got three scores apiece from Rhett Harris, Addison Kindy and Jasmine Lugo.
SATURDAY, MARCH 7: The Vista PEAK Prep baseball team topped Fruita Monument 9-4 behind winning pitcher Abel Salinas, while Karter Robertson knocked in a pair of runs and joined Evan Kelly with two hits. …The Eaglecrest boys volleyball team won the championship of its own Eaglecrest Invitational, which it sealed with a 23-25, 25-16, 15-11 victory over Legacy. The Raptors won their pool and then topped Valor Christian 25-18, 25-16 in the semifinals to advance to the final. Cherokee Trail lost to Rampart 25-16, 17-25, 15-10 in the championship match of the No. 2 Division, while Regis Jesuit’s 25-19, 17-25, 15-13 win over Boulder wrapped up third place in the No. 3 Division. … Tavio Amouzou assmased 10 kills and Gavin Aquino had four service aces and dished out 23 assists for the Overland boys volleyball team in a 25-21, 25-22, 25-11 home victory over Hinkley.
FRIDAY, MARCH 6: On a swing to the Western Slope, the Vista PEAK Prep baseball team scored five times in the opening inning en route to a 7-5 win over Grand Junction Central. Eli Garcia earned the win with 4 1/3 solid innings and Karter Robertson pitched 2 2/3 shutout frames to earn the save for the Bison, who got three hits from Garcia plus two RBI apiece from Eric Houser and Brody Broncato.
THURSDAY, MARCH 5: The Aurora Central baseball team opened the season with a 16-0 road win at Jefferson as Toby Sanchez threw three nearly perfect innings. Andres Aguillera drove in three runs, while Kirby Colbert-Olson and Mario Dominguez had two RBI apiece for Trojans. …The Eaglecrest baseball team got 3 RBI apiece from Landen Holmes and Blake Anderson on the way to an 8-4 road win over Prairie View to open the season. Winning pitcher Brian Moreland struck out six in 4 1/3 innings pitched and also had two hits and scored twice. …Anthony Rubio struck out nine and scattered four hits over five innings as the Gateway baseball team topped Rangeview 5-2. Heber Almeida doubled twice and drove in three runs to help the Olys, while Emmanuel De La Torre struck out 10 for the Raiders. …Ruben Luna tripled, drove in two runs and stole three bases to help lead the Overland baseball team to a 16-2 road win at Denver West. Humberto Perez earned the win with a two-hitter over five innings, while Malachi Gross and Dante Villanueva had two hits apiece. …The Smoky Hill girls soccer team rolled to an 11-0 win over Kennedy that included a hat trick for Emma Stangle (who also had two assists), while Lauren Nesbitt scored twice and had an assist as well for the Buffs. …Arelyn Campos scored twice on assist from America Castrejon, who also had a goal as the Hinkley girls soccer team won a 3-0 road game at Overland. …Izzy Becker’s 10 saves helped the Cherokee Trail girls soccer team in a 0-0 road tie against ThunderRidge. …The Aurora West College Prep Academy girls soccer team edged DSST: Conservatory Green 4-3. …The Grandview boys swim team earned a 93-83 Centennial League dual win over Cherokee Trail in which the teams each won six events. Greyson Connett topped two races for the Wolves, while Tyson Walker and Anderson Hardin each had two firsts for the Cougars. Mason Shutter and diver Hunter Bull also won events for Grandview, while Ian Madigan took another for Cherokee Trail. …Mason Kelly tallied five goals and dished out four assists to help the Grandview boys lacrosse team to an 11-4 road win over Pine Creek to open the season. Jack Cole scored four times and had an assist, while Drew Place made 11 saves for the Wolves. …The Rangeview boys lacrosse team scored multiple goals in every period of an 11-3 win over Douglas County that came with a five-goal, two-assist performance from Kayden Anderson plus three goals from Maliq Brown and two from Jackson Long. …The Eaglecrest boys volleyball team downed Bear Creek 25-13, 25-15, 25-23 behind 11 kills, seven digs and five service aces for Will George plus Ashton Bond’s nine kills and Dillan Ancheta’s 18 assists. …Alex Garcia piled up 28 kills, while Connor Deickman (15) and Maddox Sandstrom (11) also reached double figures in kills for the Grandview boys volleyball team in a 25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25, 15-13 win over Castle View. … Jan Khadyka (12) and Tavio Amouzou (10) had double-digit kills — while Amouzou added six blocks — for the Overland boys volleyball team in a 25-17, 26-24, 25-21 win over Rangeview. …The Hinkley boys volleyball team swept past Vail Christian 25-17, 25-20, 25-21.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4: Annabelle Turner volleyed in a cross in the 65th minute to break a scoreless tie and give the Regis Jesuit girls soccer team a 1-0 home win over Grandview in the season opener. …The Hinkley girls soccer team tallied six goals in the second half to pull away for an 8-0 win at Aurora Central. …The Aurora West College Prep Academy girls soccer team doubled up Addenbrooke Classical Academy in a 4-2 road victory. …The Eaglecrest boys volleyball team earned a 25-23, 25-22, 25-18 sweep of Chaparral as Will George tallied 10 kills, while Ashton Bond added seven and Dallin Anderson six. Max Chen added 16 digs and Dillan Ancheta 17 assists for the Raptors. …The Vista PEAK Prep girls golf team finished in sixth place in the first City League tournament of the season as Brielle Austin’s 14th-place individual finish led the way.
TUESDAY, MARCH 3: Kensley Deng tallied the only goal late in the first half for the Cherokee Trail girls soccer team in a 1-0 road win over Highlands Ranch. Ayanna Mackey assisted on the goal and Izzy Becker saved all 11 shots she faced for the Cougars. … Kimberly Cordero Diaz, Bridney Hernandez, Valeria Macias Mejia and Marta Tefanos all found the back of the net for the Gateway girls soccer team in a 4-0 victory over Abraham Lincoln. …The Grandview boys volleyball team earned a 25-16, 25-4, 25-16 season-opening sweep at Ponderosa. …The Rangeview boys volleyball team got 11 kills from Makai Yamauchi, seven kills and 12 digs from Nicholas Tapparo and 15 assists from Felipe Prieto Suarez in a 25-21, 25-21, 25-18 win over Gateway. The Olys were paced by Prabesh Chamling, Oscar Mejia de Haro and Johny Niam with three kills apiece.
