AURORA | Two people were taken to hospitals after a fire damaged a bedroom in a house in Aurora Friday morning, fire officials said.

Firefighters were dispatched about 7:10 a.m. to a reported house fire in the 15000 block of East Caspian Place amid reports that someone might be trapped inside the residence.

“Light smoke” was visible from a second-floor window when firefighters arrived, prompting crews to upgrade the call to a working structure fire, officials said in a statement.

Firefighters first on the scene began a primary search of the home while working to extinguish the fire. The person initially reported as trapped was found on the front porch, fire officials said.

Firefighters began extinguishing the fire within 10 minutes of rescuers being dispatched to the call, and the blaze was brought under control by about 7:20 a.m, officials said.

Firefighters found no one inside the house after two searches.

The fire caused minor damage to a bedroom and did not extend to the rest of the home.

Four residents were evaluated by medics at the scene. Two were transported to local hospitals, one in critical condition and another with minor injuries. The remaining two were not hospitalized.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.

  1. Any working smoke alarms for early smoke/fire detection?
Smoking in bed and fell asleep?
Smoke alarms can alert so early that occupants can put out a small fire, or safely escape, while the fire department is en route.

With today’s excellent smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms there should be no deaths or injuries from fires.
