AURORA | Aurora police have arrested a man they say was the gunman in a nonfatal shooting last month at a west Aurora apartment complex, the department said this week.

Christopher “Sandwich” Cole was arrested Wednesday on an active warrant for his arrest in connection to accusations of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault with a deadly weapon and felony menacing, according to a statement from Aurora police spokesperson Joe Moylan.

Investigators say the charges stem from a Nov. 4 shooting that followed an argument about money.

Patrol officers were called about 10:30 p.m. to an apartment in the Jewell Gardens of Aurora, in the 10600 block of East Jewell Avenue, after reports of gunfire.

They found several cartridge casings but no victim. Police later learned a man suffering gunshot wounds had driven himself to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Aurora police said Cole was identified as the suspect during the investigation.

Members of the department’s Fugitive Apprehension and Narcotics Unit and the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force arrested Cole in Denver Wednesday and said he was in possession of a firearm at the time.

Cole is currently being held at the Arapahoe County jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.

The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is expected to file charges.

Police said the investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
