AURORA | An unidentified motorcycle rider died Wednesday night when he crashed broadside into a car while racing with another motorcycle rider on a northeast Aurora street, police said.
Police were called to the 19500 block of East 38th Avenue at about 10 p.m. after reports of a car crash there.
“When officers arrived at the scene, they located an adult male motorcycle rider who was deceased at the scene,” Aurora Police spokesperson Joe Moylan said in a statement.
Police said an initial investigation revealed that a motorist in a Kia Seltos was driving east on 38th Avenue was making a “legal” U-turn when the crash occurred.
“Witnesses reported two motorcycles appeared to be racing each other, also traveling east on 38th Avenue,” Moylan said. “One of those two motorcycles t-boned the Kia and the rider was thrown from the bike.”
The other motorcycle rider “narrowly missed” also hitting the car.
The second cycle rider circled back to the crash scene, “briefly” and then sped away, police said.
The identity of the crash victim will be released by county coroner officials.
