AURORA | The Rangeview boys basketball team took an early blow from visiting Northfield in a much-anticipated City League contest Tuesday, but the Raiders fought back in a big way.

Down 11-0 a few minutes into the contest, coach Shawn Palmer’s team — which sits No. 1 in Class 6A in the most recent Colorado High School Activities Association’s seeding index — got back to work and asserted itself the rest of the way to move in front by seven points at halftime and went on to a 74-68 victory.

Senior LaDavian King and sophomore Archie Weatherspoon V tied for game-high honors for Rangeview with 23 points, which countered the same total from Northfield star Judah Michael. Freshman Marceles Duncan added 17 for the Raiders, who extended their undefeated start to 11-0.

King came off a season-high 26 points in a win over Grandview a few days earlier and posted his third 20-point effort in his first season with Rangeview, while Weatherspoon V posted his second-highest output of the season after a 29-point effort against Sahuaro (Arizona) at the Aztec Varsity Tournament.

The Raiders and Nighthawks (7-3, 0-1) — who had two others players in double figures as well — will meet again at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at Northfield.

More immediately, Rangeview turns around for another City League showdown, as it pays a visit to Denver South (9-2, 1-0 after a win over Vista PEAK Prep).
