AURORA | The first postseason action played on the new courts at Regis Jesuit High School — which opened this season — went decidedly in favor of Regis Jesuit Wednesday.
The Raiders were the top seed in the 16-team Class 5A boys tennis team state tournament and took a step forward in the bracket with a 7-0 victory No. 16 Northfield that included straight set victories in all three singles and all four doubles matches.
Coach Laura Jones’ Regis Jesuit team — last season’s 5A state team runner-up — will return to the home courts at 10 a.m. Saturday for a quarterfinal against fellow Aurora area program Grandview, the No. 8 seed which won 5-2 in its opening round match.

Regis Jesuit finished 10-0 in the regular season and eight of those wins came via sweep, which includes the win over Northfield, the City League champion which had a 7-1 record coming into the postseason.
Seven of the eight host teams were victorious in the opening round — No. 7 Ralston Valley fell victim to No. 10 Arapahoe as the only higher seed to fall — and advanced to the quarterfinals, which are scheduled for Oct. 5.
