The Grandview and Smoky Hill boys swim teams were extremely competitive in the pool during the 2024 spring season, and there was good competition among its members in the classroom as well.
The National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) recently put out its list of Academic All-Americans for the 2023-24 boys swimming season, and four Wolves and four Buffs made the cut.
Eligible athletes had to be graduating seniors who lettered with their varsity programs and achieved a Grade Point Average of 3.750 or better on a 4-point scale.
Coach Scott Cohen’s Smoky Hill team finished sixth in the Class 5A boys swimming state meet with the help of a strong senior class. Patrick Adams, Jake and Sam Baker, and Kyle Brushaber put the finishing touches on their careers with Academic All-American honors to boot. All four will be swimming in college with Jake Baker headed to the University of Utah, Sam Baker signed with the University of California, San Diego and both Adams and Brushaber will attend The College of New Jersey.
Coach Dan Berve’s ninth-place Grandview team saw Academic All-American nods go to Julian Dobrski, Erik Gustafsson, Graydon Rogers and Sam Shoemaker.
No Aurora program received one of NISCA’s Scholar Team awards this season.
