AURORA | Aurora firefighters rescued a dog from a burning house in Aurora Wednesday afternoon, while a the single-family home in east Aurora sustained heavy fire and smoke damage, police said. 

Rescuers were called to a house fire on the 15800 block of East Colorado Avenue at about 4:30 p.m.

“Upon arrival, (firefighters) found a single-story, single-family house with an active fire,” according to a statement.

Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the blaze, officials said. A child in the home was evaluated for smoke inhalation but not transported for treatment. No other injuries were reported.

As firefighters extinguished the blaze, they were able to rescue a dog from inside the burning house.

Officials said the house is not habitable because of the fire.
