MONDAY, MARCH 11: The Cherokee Trail baseball team earned a 2-0 win over Dakota Ridge in its home opener, as the Cougars — who had Logan Reid and Carter Wilcox on the mound — limited the visitors to just two hits. Jake Hernandez drove in Akoi Burton and Jonathan Robledo with the lone runs of the game with a double in the fourth inning. …The Eaglecrest baseball team outhit Northfield, but fell 3-2 on the road. …The Grandview girls soccer team dropped a 3-1 contest to Mountain Vista at Legacy Stadium. …The Grandview boys lacrosse team rolled past Chatfield 19-6 at Legacy Stadium to open its season. …The Grandview boys volleyball team visited Ponderosa and came away with a 23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-18 victory.
SATURDAY, MARCH 9: The Gateway baseball team had two crooked innings on its way to an 18-3 win over Denver West. ..The Rangeview baseball team had a 2-1 lead over Adams City after six innings, but ended up with a 9-2 loss. Sebastian Heredia-Ruiz drove in one of the runs for the Raiders. … Zoe Casebolt, Lindsay George, Madalyn Hopkins, Isabelle Rogers and Allie Smith all scored goals for the Grandview girls soccer team in a 5-1 win over Regis Jesuit. …The Eaglecrest girls soccer team secured a 3-1 home win over Brighton. …Brady Smith piled up five goals and dished out four assists, Dylan Henning and Max McDougall added three goals apiece and Greg Atencio made eight saves as the Smoky Hill boys lacrosse team downed Denver North 14-11. ..Despite six goals from Laurel Johnson, the Grandview girls lacrosse team fell to Air Academy 10-9. …The Eaglecrest boys volleyball team won the Eaglecrest Invitational with wins over Regis Groff, Cherry Creek, Thornton and Rock Canyon. Regis Jesuit and Cherokee Trail also played in the tournament and both won three matches, with the Raiders topping the Cougars head-to-head. …The Cherokee Trail girls tennis team claimed the championship of the Tom Moore Invitational hosted by Eaglecrest, as the Cougars finished three points ahead of Grandview at the top of the eight-team standings. The No. 3 doubles team of Abi Beougher and Kait James and the No. 4 doubles duo of Lauren Jose and Amarin Gifford won tournament titles for Cherokee Trail, while Grandview’s wins came at No. 1 doubles (Lauren Stec & Romie Pachorek) and No. 2 doubles (Emma Cary & Linhvy Nguyen) and Eaglecrest had the No. 1 singles champion in Natali Marshall. …The Regis Jesuit girls tennis team finished as the runner-up among 16 teams at the Western Slope Open in Grand Junction with five finalists and a champion at no. 2 doubles in Cait Carolan and Molly Goodwin.
FRIDAY, MARCH 8: The Cherokee Trail boys lacrosse team edged Columbine 10-8 as Ethan Conover, Dempsey Gibbs and Nate Gilmore had two goals apiece and Ryan Hubbard made 10 saves. …Everett Breniser racked up four goals and four assists and AJ Katagi contributed three goals as the Eaglecrest boys lacrosse team rolled past St. Mary’s 14-1. …Alejandro Garcia recorded 10 kills and nine aces to help the Grandview boys volleyball team to a 25-15, 25-20, 25-14 victory over Chaparral. Devan Hall picked up 27 assists for the Wolves, who had four players with six or more kills.
THURSDAY, MARCH 7: Abel Salinas struck out eight and threw three hitless innings — while he also drove in four runs — as the Vista PEAK Prep baseball team blanked Overland 15-0. Brian Herrera had three hits, while Jace Franklin and Ezra Wise drove in two runs apiece for the Bison. … The Rangeview baseball team shut out Aurora Central 5-0 on a two-hitter by Max McGinnis, who struck out 11. Sebastian Heredia-Ruiz and Ryan Luevanos drove in runs for the Raiders. … The Vista PEAK Prep girls soccer team got goals from Kylie McMullin and Zariah Wilborn and Kaylynn Stewart made five saves in a 2-0 win against visiting Overland. … The Aurora Central girls soccer team picked up a 5-1 win over DSST Conservatory Green. …William Wilson turned a rebound into the game-winning goal to lift the Regis Jesuit boys lacrosse team over Denver South 10-9 in overtime to open the season. Wilson had three goals, Dylan Kummer had four and Jamie Rosenzweig picked up four assists for the Raiders. …Dylan Henning piled up eight points (six goals, two assists) to help the Smoky Hill boys lacrosse team edge The Vangaurd School 13-12 to open the season. Miguel Sisneros added three goals and Brady Smith had two goals and four assists for the Buffs. …The Grandview girls lacrosse team edged Mullen 6-5 to open the season as Laurel Johnson had four goals and Bryton DeHaven had the other two. Avery May made seven saves and Anastasia Rust five for the Wolves. …The Cherokee Trail girls lacrosse team dropped a 10-8 season opener to Golden despite three goals apiece from Kyla Bieker and Lorelei Gearity. Sophia Liley made three saves. …The Rangeview boys volleyball team battled The Vanguard School to the final point in a 25-21, 17-25, 26-24, 19-25, 16-14 victory. Nicholas Tapparo had 14 kills and 14 digs and Aidan Johnson added 11 kills to lead the Raiders, who also got 16 assists and 10 digs from Adriano Aldave. …The Cherokee Trail boys volleyball team cruised past ThunderRidge 25-15, 25-15, 25-8 behind John Clinton’s 11 kills and 11 digs, Chase Jensen’s 10 kills and Chase Cabuag’s 26 assists. …Tristan Rowley had nine kills and six aces, while Liam Jungheim had six kills and six aces as the Vista PEAK Prep boys volleyball team downed Hinkley 25-16, 25-13, 25-19. The Thunder got seven aces from Luis Rangel Cepeda and six blocks from Ryan Bieber. …Joseph Thomas had eight kills and Amir Khabiri Nezhad added five with two aces as the Gateway boys volleyball team defeated Kennedy 25-13, 25-21, 25-20. …The Eaglecrest boys volleyball team swept past Bear Creek 25-20, 25-12, 25-14.
TUESDAY, MARCH 5: The Gateway boys volleyball team visited Overland and came away with a 16-25, 26-24, 12-25, 25-19, 15-11 victory in an area matchup. Vincent Johnson racked up 10 kills and Joseph Thomas had nine to pace the Olys, while Yassine Chibane registered 11 kills and 11 assists and Ahmed Diallo had 10 kills and 11 digs as highlights for the Trailblazers. …The Regis Jesuit boys volleyball team outlasted Cherry Creek 28-26, 22-25, 21-25, 25-13, 25-10 to open the season. Tyler Ryan had 13 kills and 14 assists and Callen Wolf registered 11 kills and 20 assists for the Raiders. …The Eaglecrest boys volleyball team opened its season with a 25-17, 25-17, 25-11 home win over Chaparral. …Hinkley topped Aurora West College Prep 25-12, 25-19, 25-13 in an area boys volleyball match as Ammon Fifita dished out 18 assists, while Juan Guttierez had five kills and tied with Ryan Bieber to lead the Thunder with seven blocks.
