GREENWOOD VILLAGE | The Cherokee Trail girls basketball team was tested, to be sure, in Wednesday evening’s visit to Cherry Creek, but the collected Cougars came through when it counted.

Coach Tammi Traylor-Statewright’s Cherokee Trail team outscored the Bruins 10-4 in crunch time on its way to a 61-55 victory that completed an undefeated run in Centennial League play and moved it to 16-0 against Colorado teams.

Junior Delainey Miller scored four straight points to break a 51-all tie with 3 minutes, 10 seconds, left in regulation and juniors Talia Strode and Madeline Gibbs and sophomore Karson Chaney went a combined 6-for-8 from the free throw line to close it out.

Senior Damara Allen tallied a team-high 16 points, while sophomore Aaliyah Broadus added 13 and Strode 11 in another balanced effort from the Cougars, who improved to 18-2.

The victory also gave Cherokee Trail the top seed in the upcoming Centennial League Challenge tournament, in which it could face Cherry Creek (16-3, 6-1) again.
