AURORA | Tyrei Randall smiled when asked who was in more of a zone Tuesday night, he or junior teammate Elijah Reed.

Without thinking, the smooth Rangeview senior guard quickly deferred to Reed, who exploded for 13 of his 20 points in the decisive third quarter of the Raiders’ 70-61 victory at Smoky Hill.

Despite getting stuffed on a dunk attempt that the Buffs’ crowd reminded him about frequently, Randall was pretty hot himself, as he poured in 14 of his game-high 25 points in the second quarter to help coach Shawn Palmer’s Rangeview team dig all the way out of a 16-2 deficit and improve to 5-1 overall.

Smoky Hill — which rolled up 16 straight points  in the first quarter after the Raiders scored the first basket of the game — fell to 1-5 overall.

The Buffaloes began to pull away in the beginning behind the hot outside shooting of sophomore guard Shae Wyatt, but Rangeview eventually settled itself defensively and began to go on the attack.

Randall slipped in for a baseline layup in the final minute of the first quarter to snap Smoky Hill’s 16-0 run and he carried the momentum into the second quarter, hitting a floater and consecutive 3-pointers to help the Raiders cut the deficit under double figures.
