Sakdol, Kaiser seek Arapahoe County Assessor office
Corbin Sakdol and PK Kaiser both believe they know best what Arapahoe County is worth, which is why they are running to be the next Arapahoe County Assessor.
Sakdol, the Republican incumbent, is seeking his third consecutive four-year term, while Democrat Kaiser is in the running for the office for the first time after campaigns for two other offices failed in the previous four years.
The office of the Arapahoe County Assessor discovers, lists, classifies and values all real and person property in the county while also maintaining public records, including ownership and parcel maps.
“I’ve reduced my budget every year in office and passed every annual state audit, so I’m very proud of the office,” said Sakdol, who has worked in the assessor’s office for 24 years and was selected Colorado Assessor of the Year in 2012. “It’s a very difficult job,” he added. “We have 200,000 properties we have to reappraise, from commercial to 80 million square feet of office space to golf courses to 325,000 acres of agriculture.
“Arapahoe County is one of the most complex counties in Colorado, so we need to continue with experience. This should not be a political office, it’s a job we do day in and day out, so I always encourage people not to vote based on politics, but off of experience,” Sakdol said.
Sakdol’s office — which employs 63 people, including 36 licensed appraisers throughout nine departments and two locations — is currently in the middle of a reassessment that is due in every odd-numbered year. He believes his previous experience, plus his credentials as a licensed Certified General Appraiser at the highest level the state of Colorado offers, makes him the right candidate to complete that task for 2015 and can offer citizens the most accurate assessment of their land value at the lowest cost.
Kaiser is in the midst of a political campaign for the fifth straight year, having previously come up short in two bids for House District 40 and two tries for Aurora City Council.
With an MBA degree in finance and accounting, a masters degree in economics and a masters degree in accounting and CPA currently in the works, Kaiser believes he has the qualifications and the recognition around Arapahoe County to do the job.
“My motivation to run for this office is to offer Arapahoe County residents moral fairness, efficient services and an open and transparent county government,” said Kaiser, a decade-long Arapahoe County resident. “I feel I receive a very good reception, many of the people know me. I’m a simple guy, to the point. I’m not a politician, I just answer things straightforward and if I don’t know, I say so. I’m a common person and I want to employ common sense in the assessor’s office.”
Kaiser said he’s ready to dig into the reassessment due in 2015 and believes that he can help establish the “true market value” of land and businesses in the county than what he sees currently.
Additionally, Kaiser would like to further train employees of the office and make them available to help the county in other ways if they have time and he’d also like to improve the amount of information Arapahoe County makes available to its residents on its website.
