AURORA | Investigators released surveillance images Thursday of three people they say tried to set off a pipe bomb last weekend at Mrachek Middle School.
The images, released by Aurora fire, show what appear to be three teenagers, at least one carrying a backpack, walking around the campus.
Investigators said the trio set the bomb on fire, but it never detonated.
School officials found the bomb around the time school started Monday morning and evacuated the school. Administrators cancelled classes for the rest of the day but classes resumed Tuesday.
Investigators searched the building but said they didn’t find any other devices.
Police are offering a reward of $500 for information about the suspects and are asking tipsters to call 303-326-8912. Tipsters can also provide information by calling Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867) or text a tip to 274637 (CRIMES) and then use the title DMCS and enter the message. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of as much as $2,000.
