Frasersmith said he thought the boys team could win the national championship — which would have been the program’s first since 2005 — but they got edged by just 25 points by a team from Loyola High School of California. Loyola racked up 6,263 points to the 6,238 for Regis Jesuit, which featured scores of Division I-bound swimmers and athletes such as North Carolina State signee Hennessey Stuart, University of Iowa recruits Chris Dawson and Matt Mauser, Utah pledge Austin Phillips and North Dakota signee Bruce Nerheim.

Regis Jesuit also had 12 swims recognized by NISCA as meeting All-American criteria.

The Raiders — who won NISCA national titles in 1994, 1997, 2004 and 2005 under former coach Mike Doherty — played host to Loyola in a dual meet in 2013 and prevailed by a score of 109.5-60.5.

In rankings of all schools regardless of size and classification, The Bolles School from Florida managed to top both Loyola and Regis Jesuit with a total of 6,303 points.

The Regis Jesuit girls, who won a second straight 5A crown in the 2013-14 season and had three All-American-recognized swims of their own, managed 5,811 points to come in 20th overall, but fifth among independent schools with enrollment of 900 or more students.

NISCA received 16 team submissions from Colorado, which tied the state for eighth among the 37 states represented. The only other Colorado team to rank in the top 25 in either boys or girls was the Fairview girls team — which finished second to Regis Jesuit at the state meet — which came in 15th among all classifications with 5,931 points.
