DURANGO |  Durango police say demonstrators angry at coronavirus-related restrictions on business and social activity have staged another protest outside the home of a local public health director.

Thursday’s protest by about 15 people was the latest of several demonstrations at the home of Liane Jollon, the San Juan Basin public health director.

Durango Police Chief Brice Current told The Durango Herald that demonstrators complied with state law requiring protests be on public property at least 300 feet (90 meters) from a targeted residence. No citations were issued.

Four counter-protesters also gathered across the street.

The state issues public health orders. But Jollon has been a target for some residents who object to the state regulations.

Jollon told the Herald she was at work Thursday during the latest protest.

State lawmakers are sponsoring bipartisan legislation designed to protect the personal information of public health workers in an effort to stop them from being targeted over the issuance of state health orders.
