The Aurora Fox is taking a summer vacation to Stapleton. Once again, producers from the Fox will bring a mobile production to the Founders’ Green public space at Stapleton for a weekend of free theater. This year’s production of “Once On This Island,” with a book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty, will run at 6 p.m. on June 2, 3, 9 and 10 at Founders’ Green, 2900 Syracuse St. in Denver. Aurora’s youngest theater company made a heartfelt debut last month, and we’re looking forward to their next creative step. The Vintage Theatre troupe attracted regular audiences to their new home at 1468 Dayton St. for the run of “The Joy Luck Club,” and they’re shifting gears with “The Drowsy Chaperone,” a musical comedy set to kick off on June 1. The show relies on a story-within-a-story structure, a plot setup that comes in the dreams and whimsy of the main character known simply as “Man in Chair.” As soon as the curtain rises, the man is eager to talk all about his love of musical theater. When he drops the needle on the recording of the 1920s era musical “The Drowsy Chaperone,” an entirely new narrative begins. The cast for the Vintage Theatre production includes Paul Page, Jodi Brinkman, Rachel Turner, Steffan Scrogan, Jimmy Miller and David Ambroson. Carol Petitmaire directs. The Boulder-based rock band Firefall will kick off this year’s free concert series at the Southlands shopping center in Aurora with a nod to the history of local rock and roll. Firefall first gained notoriety in the 1970s, with founding member Jock Bartley contributing solid guitar work from his days as Tommy Bolin’s replacement in the band Zephyr. The band’s Southlands appearance will feature tunes from the era, including “You Are the Woman, “Just Remember I Love You” and “Strange Way.” The show starts at 6 p.m., June 1, Town Square, Southlands, 6155 South Main St. Admission is free.
