AURORA | Courts, pools, mats and ice rinks can open for practice Wednesday, as prep teams in Aurora and around the state are allowed to begin practice for the upcoming 2013-14 winter sports season.
Boys and girls basketball, wrestling, girls swimming and ice hockey can begin tryouts and preparation for the new campaign, which officially opens Dec. 2.
The Colorado High School Activities Association permits scrimmages to begin on Nov. 19, roughly two weeks before the regular season.
Aurora has three defending team champions coming into the 2013-14 season: the Eaglecrest boys basketball team, the Regis Jesuit girls basketball team and the Regis Jesuit girls swim team, which competes for the first time four years without Olympic champion Missy Franklin.
Regis Jesuit senior Grant Neal is a returning state wrestling champion, as he won the 195-pound weight class at last season’s 5A state tournament at Pepsi Center.
