AURORA | Overnight snowfall at the Aurora Sports Park has forced the Class 5A state softball tournament to be shifted to Saturday and Sunday.

The opening two rounds of play were scheduled for Friday, but the inch-plus of snow that fell Thursday night and lingered in the morning forced officials to cancel play for the day.

The tournament now moves to Saturday and Sunday with the same time schedule the Colorado High School Activities Association said in a morning statement, but also indicated that further delays could come based on field conditions.

Aurora’s two teams are both slated to take the field at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, with sixth-seeded Eaglecrest (19-2) going against No. 11 Castle View (13-8) and No. 11 Grandview (17-5) going against No. 7 Legend (17-5). With two victories each, the city rivals could face each other in the semifinals, now scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday.

First pitch for the state championship game is set for 1:45 p.m.
