GREENWOOD VILLAGE | The Rangeview girls basketball team had its hands full in a visit to Cherry Creek Feb. 26 for a Class 5A Sweet 16 playoff contest.
The homestanding and fourth-seeded Bruins came out firing at the start and held the 13th-seeded Raiders scoreless in the second quarter en route to a 70-14 victory and a spot in the Great 8.
Rangeview put up nine points in the opening quarter — capped by a 3-pointer from senior Amari Bullock — but managed just five points in the subsequent three quarters.
Still, coach La Monte Weddle’s team took a big step forward as the EMAC runner-up Raiders finished 20-5 — the program’s best record since it went 21-3 in the 2011-12 season — and made it to 5A’s Sweet 16 for the first time in at least the last 13 seasons.
