GREELEY |  A former Colorado teacher’s aide convicted of having sex with one of her 14-year-old students was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison.

The Greeley Tribune reports 26-year-old Jerica Enriquez was sentenced Thursday after a jury found her guilty in May of several felony sex assault counts.

Enriquez had worked at Jefferson Junior High School in Greeley. The boy had previously testified that the relationship with Enriquez started in the fall of 2016, and it included inappropriate texts and sex.

Enriquez, who recently gave birth to a girl while incarcerated, asked the court for the minimum sentenced, saying she didn’t want to miss the milestones of her daughter’s life. She also acknowledged her criminal actions and apologized to the victim’s family.
