QUID HAS HEARD a few Republicans are hesitant to wade into political waters these days, considering how dry the prospects are when the top of your ticket may be Tom Tancredo. Several high profile Republicans have come out in the last few weeks to tell everyone they’re not running for office, despite murmurs that they may be. Rep. Cory Gardner joined the fray last week when he declined a ticket to lose to U.S. Sen Mark Udall in a general election. As far as local R’s go here? Look no further than once-golden Ryan Frazier, who’s literally tossed his hat into a different ring: he’s on the state’s boxing commission — and not running for office.

QUID HAS HEARD that RTD officials now say a centrally located light rail station may have to move north into Wyoming to accommodate CU’s request that the train not shake, rattle and roll hospital patients out of bed. It’s a legitimate concern that’s been legitimately dealt with in other cities, so we’re sure there’ll be a resolution here. But Quid has just one question: Didn’t anyone think of this before? The hospital has been there for years, and the light rail has been coming for years. No one thought of this? Smooth move guys.

QUID HAS HEARD that city nabobs are looking into sticking it to visitors with a hiked hotel tax in an effort to raise more money for Astroturf in the medians or something. Quid couldn’t agree more. Especially considering we’re going to help foot the bill for the 1,500-room behemoth out in the middle of Kansas they’re all going to stay at. Dockers-clad conference goers owe us that much. As a matter of fact, sign Quid up to sling $20 drinks out there or something. If anyone needs to make money off of cheesy Rocky Mountain kitsch, it’s over-worked underpaid journalists.

One reply on “QUIDNUNC: Republican dryspell; Bad vibrations; Pay more to stay at local hotels”

  1. I’m sure glad to hear others have wondered why those that spend ‘other peoples’ money don’t think. Especially those at the University Hospital. It may be an educational service, but they don’t seem to think ahead. Take the parking situation on the main grounds. It’s as bad as the old ‘Fitz used to be. At least Children’s built a parking garage.
As for the hotel tax………….no way. I like to travel, and now every time I check into one, I wonder why I, as a visitor, have to pay for the local citizens latest boondoggle.
