AURORA | Six juveniles are facing charges after police say they made threats to three Aurora schools — part of a string of online threats across the city in the weeks after 17 people were killed at a Florida high school.

Police said investigators are looking into several other cases of online threats against local schools and they hope to file charges in those cases as well.

“Every student and faculty member in a school not only has the right to be safe when at school, but they also have the right to feel safe at school.  It is our duty as law enforcement officers to keep the community safe and reduce the fear of crime,” Aurora police Chief Nick Metz said in a statement announcing the charges. “My officers go to great lengths every day to accomplish this mission.”

Police said charges are pending against a juvenile male in connection with threats made to Hinkley High School that were first reported to police Feb. 17

A juvenile female has been charged in connection with threats made to Horizon Middle School first reported Feb. 23.

A total of four students have been charged with threats made to North Middle School that were first reported to police Feb. 23. Three female juveniles have been charged in one incident and one juvenile male has been charged in another. Aurora police spokesman Officer Bill Hummel said the two incidents at North are separate but they were reported to police the same day.
