City: April showers are still just April showers

AURORA | Despite the unexpected snowstorms the state has seen over the past three weeks, Aurora officials say they’re not ready to lift citywide watering restrictions.

The city’s reservoirs were at 49 percent of capacity as of April 22, which is still below average.

When the Aurora City Council approved watering restrictions effective April 1 through Sept. 30, the city’s reservoirs were less than 48 percent of capacity. The watering restrictions prohibit residents from watering their lawns more than twice a week. Before April, residents were on a non-scheduled, three-day per week watering plan.

“With reservoirs well below typical levels, we’re in a wait-and-see position,” said Aurora Water spokesman Greg Baker. “We’ll know more by the first week of June.”
