AURORA | An Aurora police officer was hospitalized Sunday night after a truck slammed into his police cruiser on Interstate 70.
The officer, who was looking for speeders at the time of the crash, is expected to survive, as is the truck’s driver, police said.
The crash happened around midnight on I-70 near Tower Road.
Police said the officer parked his car and was setting up when a Ford pickup headed east on the interstate veered left and struck a guardrail.
The truck then slammed into the police car, spinning it 180 degrees.
The driver of the truck and the police officer were taken to an area hospital but have since been released.
The Aurora police traffic section is investigating the cause of the crash, but police said they don’t believe alcohol or excessive speed were factors.
