AURORA | A judge Wednesday quadrupled the bond for an Aurora man accused of having several pipe bombs at his home.
Michael Grover, 54, was being held in the Arapahoe County Jail on $250,000 bond following his arrest Monday night. But at a court hearing Wednesday morning, a judge upped Grover’s bond to $1 million.
Police say they found several explosives at Glover’s home at 1490 S. Bahama St. after a small fire there Monday night.
The explosives, which police said included pipe bombs, were a threat to the neighborhood, police said, and forced the evacuation of several nearby homes.
Sgt. Cassidee Carlson, a spokeswoman for Aurora police, said Grover’s neighbors were allowed back into their homes Tuesday night. Investigators finished their work at the home Wednesday, she said.
Investigators aren’t sure why Grover had the bombs, Carlson said, but they don’t think he had any particular targets he planned to use them against.
“We don’t have any indication of why he had these at this point,” she said.
According to state records, Grover, a New York native, had never been arrested in Colorado before Monday.
He is due in court again Feb. 25.
