AURORA | A mom and her toddler are expected to survive after police say they were pinned under an SUV Monday night after being struck near East Exposition Avenue and South Abilene Street.
An off-duty police sergeant and several passerby helped lift the SUV off the mother and her daughter, freeing them so emergency crews could rush them to an area hospital, police said.
The crash happened around 6:25 p.m. at 14200 E. Exposition Ave., directly in front of a Wal-Mart store.
Police say the mother, her daughter and her two twin boys were crossing Exposition from the north when the mom, daughter and one of the twins were struck by an eastbound Kia Rio. The family wasn’t in a crosswalk, police said. The driver of the Kia was travelling a few miles under the speed limit when the crash occurred and police said they will not be charged.
Police said the mom and daughter were wedged under the car, while one of the twins was bumped by the vehicle and had a bump on his head.
The mom had serious injuries but is expected to survive, police said, and her daughter has lacerations on her head and legs. She is also expected to survive, police said.

Jay walking is a plague in Aurora. I have almost hit two jaywalkers in the last year, wearing dark clothing and crossing in dark areas of the street. Nobody pays any attention to the law. Since the police officers in Aurora are some of the worst traffic offenders, not coming to a full stop at stop signs or when turning on red, speeding without lights or siren, changing lanes and turning without signaling, it is no wonder Aurora citizens ignore the law too.
