COLORADO SPRINGS | The next front in the Colorado battle over oil and gas fracking is Colorado Springs. That’s where critics of the drilling practice plan a protest Tuesday in search of more curbs on hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.
The Colorado Springs rally comes in advance of a city council meeting where officials are scheduled to talk about oil and gas drilling regulations. Critics say the proposed regulations need more environmental safeguards.
The Colorado Springs rally comes three weeks after citizens in Longmont overwhelmingly voted to ban hydraulic fracturing over similar concerns. State officials and the oil and gas industry say local governments can’t set their own drilling rules.
The process involves blasting water, sand and chemicals underground to free oil and natural gas.
… and the process involves contaminating water, air, land, irresponsible use of water (1,000 truck loads per frack) damaging roads, bridges quiet residential streets, our semi arid climate can NOT afford to lose this water, transforming this water into toxic mess that is permanently gone as water forever and has to be disposed of “safely” generating earthquakes and sinkholes at the “safe” injection sites… increasing massive fire danger with using the finite amount of water available taking it away from farmers…. egregious behavior for any semi arid state. Not to mention the silica dust generated from the silica sand required 10x fda approved levels… the extraction process is so damaging it offsets any ‘cleaner’ burning benefits. It still doesn’t burn clean. Opt for solar and wind – there is CLEAN and WAY less disruptive. Germany in 8 years will be 100% renewable. Yup 100%. France and Spain by 2025. The US is chasing down the wrong path and poisoning citizens while doing so. Choose renewables. Ban Fracking!!!
